Professional Profile
Mr Muir has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon since 1996. His elective practice at Hope Hospital consists only of hand and upper limb surgery and encompasses most aspects in the field. In addition to this, he undertakes general trauma on call.
Mr Muir undertook training in Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester, with specialist hand surgery training in Strasbourg, France, the upper limb unit at Wrightington Hospital and the department of plastic surgery at Withington Hospital, Manchester.Currently Mr Muir is the Royal College of Surgeons Tutor at Hope Hospital. He was formerly Chairman of the Core Surgical Training Committee and is the Hope Hospital representative on the Surgical Training Committee on orthopaedic surgery.
He has taught on a number of national courses including on wrist arthroscopy at the Royal College of surgeons in London, on MSc courses at John Moores University Liverpool and the University of Manchester and on the authoritative BSSH instrumental course in hand surgery. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow. Mr Muir is also a trainer for the Manchester based National Interface Hand Fellows. These posts are for doctors in the final stages of their training to become hand surgery specialists and these doctors are drawn from both plastic and orthopaedic surgery.
