Professional Profile
Prof. Lennard Funk is a Consultant Shoulder & Upper Limb Surgeon and Professor of Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine at Salford University. He specialises in arthroscopic (keyhole) and minimally invasive surgery of the shoulder and elbow. In addition to his surgical qualifications, Prof. Funk has a BSc in Sports Physiology and an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering and his special interests include shoulder dislocations, frozen shoulder, arthritis, stiff elbows and sports injuries of the shoulder.

He has performed surgery in the UK and across Europe and routinely treats elite and professional athletes, particularly contact sport professionals and rugby players who have suffered shoulder and elbow injuries. Prof. Funk performs office shoulder ultrasound which provides immediate scans and outcome assessments to all patients at the first clinic appointment, offering a one-stop diagnostic service for shoulder injuries and diseases.

Prof. Funk strongly believes in offering a complete multidisciplinary shoulder and upper limb service for his patients. He employs a team comprising of an Assistant Surgical Practitioner (Linda Hallam), Research Shoulder Therapist (Kathleen Tatlow), Practice Manager (Will Tatlow), Events Manager (Sarah O'Donnell) and a Medical Secretary. The team believe in keeping close links with referring therapists and clinicians, ensuring that their patients get the highest standard of care.

Prof. Funk is also a partner of the OrthTeam group of Consultant Orthopaedic surgeons, who also offer a complete specialist orthopaedic service at the BMI Alexandra Hospital. Prof. Funk has an ongoing interest in research related to shoulder surgery, sports injuries and medical informatics and is responsible for Medical Student education for the University of Manchester, developed and oversees postgraduate degrees for surgeons, therapists and sports clinicians in Orthopaedics, as well as running regular national and international conferences and courses on shoulder and sports surgery, ultrasound and rehabilitation.
