Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is the endoscopic examination of the colon and the distal part of the small bowel with a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera on a flexible tube passed through the anus. It enables the doctor to see problems such as abnormal growths, ulcers and inflamed tissue.

Colonoscopy is most often used for the early diagnosis of cancer in the colon or rectum and also provides the opportunity for biopsy or removal of suspected lesions.

The procedure normally takes up to an hour and you will be required to follow a liquid diet for one to three days beforehand.
