Endometrial Ablation Surgery
Endometrial ablation is a surgical treatment for abnormal bleeding of the uterus. It involves the surgical destruction of the lining tissues of the uterus, known as the endometrium. The treatment is not carried out on pregnant women or women who plan on becoming pregnant in the future.
Before the treatment, a biopsy is taken to ensure that no cancer is present, as endometrial ablation surgery is not sufficient to treat cancerous cells that may have grown deeper into the tissue fo the uterus.
Different procedures have been used to destroy the uterine lining tissue, including laser beam, electricity, freezing, heating, or microwave energy.
