Ingrown Toenail Surgery
An ingrown toenail occurs when the edge of the nail grows down into the skin. This can cause the toe to become red, swollen and tender. If an ingrown toenail is severe, a small operation will be required to remove it.
It is possible that an ingrown toenail may become infected, causing it to become painful, red and swollen. The infection can spread to the rest of your toe if it isn't treated.
An injection of local anaesthetic will be given before the procedure numbing the area around the toenail. The nail bed (the cells from which the nail starts growing) may also be removed. This will stop the edge of the nail re-growing and growing back into the skin.
