Pregnancy Scans
Ultrasound is an important way to monitor your baby's development and pick up on any abnormalities or potential problems that are likely to occur in the early stages of pregnancy. It is also the most amazing way of bonding with your baby from as early as 7 weeks. Bringing along a partner, other children or grandparents to the scan appointment can be a magical way for them to connect with the new baby/babies.
You should be offered at least two scans on the NHS during your pregnancy, one at the end of the first trimester (between 11-14 weeks) and another at around 20 weeks. As hospitals operate different policies in offering ultrasound scans, you may find in the case of busy or underfunded hospitals that you have to wait several weeks for a scan. In this case you may wish to consider having one privately. It could be that you wanted an additional scan at an earlier or later stage in your pregnancy for reassurance or for other members of the family to share this experience.
All results including those of Nuchal Translucency scans are given on the day, at your appointment.
The pregnancy ultrasound service is provided by dedicated and highly respected Ultrasound Sonographers, with a wealth of ultrasound experience, working in both the NHS and private sector.
